Buses at Changsha Huanghua Airport (CSX): the four lines, fares and where to board

There are only four lines and just one of them has a published fare — but after the maglev and metro stop for the night, the coaches are the only public transport still moving.

In short

Changsha Huanghua currently runs four coach lines — a small number next to comparable airports, mainly because the maglev and Metro Line 6 already connect the airport to Changshanan and the city centre. The four are: the Airport Express (Wuyi Square line), ¥35 and about 60 minutes, leaving from the arrivals-level bays at T1/T2 and calling at Gaoqiao South Gate, Jintai Square and the Shanshi Fashion Hotel before terminating at the Pinghetang stop on Wuyi Square, with one-way tickets booked in advance through the Xiangyu Jichang mini-program (湘遇机场) and departures towards the city running until the last flight of the day; the Changsha South Railway Station line, running 08:45–20:30 from the airport and 08:00–20:00 from the station on rolling 10–15 minute departures, with no officially published fare; the Changsha South Bus Station line, one departure a day in each direction at 12:00 from the airport and 13:10 from the bus station, also with no published fare; and the intercity coaches to Zhuzhou (10:00, 11:30, 13:30, 15:00, 16:30, 17:50, 19:20), Xiangtan, Liuyang, Yiyang and Changde, Shaodong and other cities. All of them board at the same place: the airport bus bays on the arrivals level, bays B1–B5 at T1 and A1–A7 at T2.

How to take each option

Where to board and how to buy a ticket

  1. After baggage claim stay on the arrivals level and follow the airport bus or coach signs to the bays.
  2. Check the bay numbers: bays B1–B5 at T1 and A1–A7 at T2, with different lines using different bays.
  3. Buy a ticket for your destination at the bay; one-way tickets on the Wuyi Square line must be booked first through the Xiangyu Jichang mini-program.
  4. Load your bags into the luggage hold and keep the ticket stub once on board.

All four lines board from the same set of bays, each signed with its route. If you are unsure, show the Chinese name of your destination to the staff.

Wuyi Square line: the only line with a published fare

Time About 60 minFare ¥35First 08:00
  1. Find the Airport Express bay signed for Wuyi Square at the T1/T2 arrivals-level bays.
  2. Book the one-way ticket in advance in the Xiangyu Jichang mini-program and show it when boarding.
  3. Pay ¥35 and board; the coach calls at Gaoqiao South Gate, Jintai Square and the Shanshi Fashion Hotel, terminating at Pinghetang on Wuyi Square.

These are seven-seat business vans with a published fare of ¥35 per person and a journey of about 60 minutes. Towards the city they run until the last flight of the day, though the coaches that call at Jintai Square finish at 22:00; towards the airport they run 05:20–18:00 (Jintai Square to airport from 08:30). That late finish is their only timing advantage over the maglev, whose last departure is 22:30, and Metro Line 6, which stops around 23:00.

The Changsha South, South Bus Station and intercity lines

  1. For Changshanan and a high-speed train: take the Changsha South line, running 08:45–20:30 from the airport every 10–15 minutes.
  2. For Changsha South Bus Station: there is one coach a day, leaving the airport at 12:00 and returning at 13:10 — get to the bay early and confirm.
  3. For Zhuzhou, Xiangtan, Liuyang, Yiyang and Changde, Shaodong and other cities: take an intercity coach. The Zhuzhou departures are 10:00, 11:30, 13:30, 15:00, 16:30, 17:50 and 19:20.

None of these three lines has an officially published fare, so the table leaves it blank. Only the Zhuzhou timings are given for the intercity group; for the other cities, rely on the notices at the bay.

Late-night and early-morning arrivals

The maglev’s last departure from the airport is 22:30 (23:00 on holidays) and Metro Line 6 finishes at about 23:00. The Airport Express to Wuyi Square is the only public transport still running late: towards the city it runs until the last flight of the day, although the coaches that call at Jintai Square stop at 22:00. Later than that there is only the taxi rank and ride-hailing, both around the clock, with the night tariff applying from 22:00 to 05:30.

Questions travellers ask

How many bus lines does Changsha Huanghua Airport have?

Four: the Wuyi Square line (the Airport Express), the Changsha South Railway Station line, the Changsha South Bus Station line, and the intercity group to Zhuzhou, Xiangtan, Liuyang, Yiyang and Changde, Shaodong and beyond. That is fewer than at comparable airports, because the maglev and Metro Line 6 already carry most of the traffic.

How much do the airport buses cost?

Only the Wuyi Square line has a published fare, ¥35 per person. The Changsha South, South Bus Station and intercity fares are not published officially, and this page gives no estimates — ask at the bay before you board.

Where do the airport buses leave from?

The coach bays on the arrivals level of T1 and T2: bays B1–B5 at T1, bays A1–A7 at T2. All four lines use the same area.

How do I get to Wuyi Square by bus?

Take the Airport Express (Wuyi Square line): ¥35, about 60 minutes, rolling departures from 08:00, calling at Gaoqiao South Gate, Jintai Square and the Shanshi Fashion Hotel before terminating at the Pinghetang stop on Wuyi Square. One-way tickets have to be booked through the Xiangyu Jichang mini-program.

What time does the last Wuyi Square coach leave?

Two sources disagree here. The airport’s own notice says rolling departures from 08:00 to 22:00, while the timetable republished by Bendibao says coaches run towards the city until the last flight of the day, with the Jintai Square services finishing at 22:00. Plan around the earlier figure.

Is there a bus to Changsha South railway station?

Yes — the Changsha South line runs 08:45–20:30 from the airport and 08:00–20:00 from the station, on rolling 10–15 minute departures. That said, the maglev takes only 16 minutes for ¥20 and is quicker and more predictable when you have a train to catch.

Are there coaches to Zhuzhou or Xiangtan?

Yes — the intercity coaches serve Zhuzhou, Xiangtan, Liuyang, Yiyang and Changde, Shaodong and other cities. Zhuzhou departures are 10:00, 11:30, 13:30, 15:00, 16:30, 17:50 and 19:20; for the other cities, check the notices at the bay.

Bus or maglev?

For Changshanan, the maglev wins outright: 16 minutes, ¥20, immune to traffic, while the bus is slower and its fare is unpublished. Into the city centre, Metro Line 6 at ¥5 is cheapest; the coach only makes sense if your hotel sits right on its route, or late at night once the rail has stopped.

Bus or taxi?

Travelling alone with light bags and time to spare, the ¥35 coach is roughly half the estimated ¥70–90 of a taxi. With three or four people, heavy luggage or a late arrival, a metered taxi door to door is simply easier.

Can I pay for the bus with my phone?

One-way tickets on the Wuyi Square line have to be booked in the Xiangyu Jichang mini-program, which works from both WeChat and Alipay; for the other lines you buy at the bay, where cash and QR payment are normally both accepted.

Why does the South Bus Station line run only once a day?

The collected timetable shows one departure a day in each direction, at 12:00 from the airport and 13:10 from the bus station. No official explanation is given and no fare is published. If you miss it, use Metro Line 6 or take a taxi.
