Airport ↔ rail connections
Shanghai Pudong International Airport上海浦东国际机场
Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) has no railway station of its own, but more rail options than any other Chinese airport: the Maglev covers Longyang Road in 8 minutes (¥50, or ¥40 with a same-day boarding pass), Metro Line 2 crosses the whole city to Hongqiao Railway Station, and the Airport Link Line runs to Hongqiao in 40 minutes for ¥26. Allow about 50 minutes from landing to a high-speed train at Hongqiao. Tickets from Hongqiao can be booked on traintickets.travel.

Runs west–east: Pudong Airport – Guanglan Road – Century Avenue – People's Square – Jing'an Temple – Zhongshan Park – Hongqiao Airport T2 – Hongqiao Railway Station – Panxiang Road. About 65 min to People's Square, about 100 min to Hongqiao Railway Station. Since 19 April 2019 eight-car trains run through to the airport extension, so no change at Guanglan Road is needed except on weekday morning peaks, when 4- and 8-car trains are mixed; if you board a 4-car train, change same-platform anywhere between the airport and Tangzhen.

- Level
- Transport hub lower level between T1 & T2, shared with Metro Line 2 and the Maglev
Opened for initial service on 27 December 2024. About 59 km with 7 stations (Hongqiao Airport T2, Zhongchun Road, Jinghong Road, Sanlin South, Kangqiao East, Shanghai International Resort, Pudong Airport T1 & T2), designed for 160 km/h, end-to-end about 40 minutes — currently the fastest rail option between Pudong and the Hongqiao hub. The western terminus is Hongqiao Airport T2 station inside the Hongqiao hub, from which Hongqiao Railway Station is a walk of roughly 10 minutes through the hub's transfer passage.
Shanghai Metro Line 21 — Not yet open. Phase 1 plus eastern extension is about 42 km with 23 stations running north–south through Pudong (Waigaoqiao – Jinqiao – Zhangjiang – Chuansha – Disney – East Hub); all 50 tunnel sections were holed through on 5 August 2026 and opening is planned to coincide with Shanghai East Railway Station. The Shanghai East – Pudong Airport T3 section waits for Terminal 3, so Line 21 will not serve the airport directly at first.
Getting here by metro
Follow these steps. The rail concourse is not directly under the terminal — head for the hub between the terminals.
-
Head to the transport hub between T1 and T2
The Maglev and airport buses are on 2F of the transport hub; Metro Line 2 and the Airport Link Line are underground. T1 and T2 are a 10–15 minute walk apart, with a free shuttle as well.
-
Buy a ticket: transit card, QR code or ticket window
Metro and Airport Link accept transit cards and Alipay/WeChat ride codes. The Maglev has its own ticket windows and machines; a same-day ticket or boarding pass brings it to ¥40.
-
Pick your line: Maglev for speed, Airport Link for Hongqiao8 min
The Maglev takes 8 minutes to Longyang Road (change to lines 2/7/16/18). Metro Line 2 runs into the city on one train and reaches Hongqiao too, but takes about 100 minutes. The Airport Link Line reaches Hongqiao in 40.
-
Into the city: join the metro at Longyang Road or Hongqiao
Longyang Road connects lines 2, 7, 16 and 18; Hongqiao Airport T2 connects lines 2 and 10 — and the railway station next door.

Walk to the transport hub between the terminals
At Pudong the trains are not directly under the terminal but in the hub between T1 and T2: 2F for the Maglev and buses, underground for Metro Line 2 and the Airport Link Line.
-
Into the city, or straight to Hongqiao8 min
Maglev in 8 minutes to Longyang Road, Metro Line 2 straight into the city, or the Airport Link Line to Hongqiao Airport T2 in 40 minutes.
-
To another city: high-speed rail from Hongqiao50 min
Get off at Hongqiao Airport T2 and follow the “railway station” signs for about 10 minutes into Shanghai Hongqiao station — roughly 50 minutes door to platform. Hongqiao is the origin of the Beijing–Shanghai, Shanghai–Kunming and Shanghai–Nanjing trunk lines.
Airport → railway station
Pudong Airport has no railway station of its own — there is no station on 12306 and no China Railway service. The adjacent “Pudong Airport T1 & T2” station belongs to the Shanghai suburban railway (Airport Link Line); it is run as part of the Shanghai metro network, entered with a transit card or QR code, and is not a China Railway station.

Before you fly
- Check-in
- Both terminals check in on 3F, with islands lettered A–M in each building. T1 is the China Eastern / Shanghai Airlines / SkyTeam terminal: China Eastern A, B, C (self-service), H, J, K, L, M; Shanghai Airlines A, C (self-service), H, J, K, L, M; China Airlines G; Delta G/H. T2 serves Air China, China Southern, Juneyao, Spring, Star Alliance and oneworld: Air China H/K, China Southern L (domestic) and D (international), Juneyao J/L, Spring J/M, Cathay Pacific D. Check-in closes 40 minutes before departure for domestic flights and 60 minutes for international flights (70 for Ethiopian Airlines) as of 1 September 2026.
- Security
- International departures: check in and drop bags on 3F, customs declaration, then the joint inspection area (quarantine, immigration, security, customs), then the international pier or the people mover to the satellite. Domestic departures: check in on 3F, clear security, then wait on the 2F domestic level or in the satellite. The international security peak is 06:30–09:30, with queues kept to 16–20 minutes. Walking between T1 and T2 takes 10–15 minutes, or use the free inter-terminal shuttle, roughly every 10 minutes.
- Gates
- Main-building gates use numbers or the letters C/D/E/F: T1 main building 1–32 (domestic 1–15, 200–203, 251–258; international 16–32, 208–216); T2 domestic gates are C (C50–C98, remote C219–C224) and international gates are D/E/F (D50–D90 etc., remote D228–D232). In both satellite concourses the rule is: H = domestic gates, G = international gates. S1 has H101–H147 and G101–G140 (remote H501–H502, G551–G552); S2 has H148–H190 and G148–G190 (remote H601–H602, G651–G652). A G or H on your boarding pass means boarding from the satellite: after security take the people mover, about 2.5 minutes with trains every 3–5 minutes.
