Within reason, yes. The published itinerary is what the day is priced for; if you want to drop a stop or add a nearby one, tell the driver in the morning. Longer detours or a different city may cost extra — ask before you set off.
What a private tour actually is
A charter, not a coach seat: your own vehicle and driver for the day, priced per vehicle rather than per person. Pick a car, a driver-guide and a pick-up point, then run the day your way — change the order of the stops, stay longer at the lake, skip the shop you never wanted to see.
Why people charter instead of joining a group
The vehicles
Per day · photos are typical of the class
- 5–9 seats: your guide may bring their own vehicle and act as driver-guide — one person who both drives and explains.
- More than 9 seats: a dedicated driver is added, so the guide is free to stay with you inside the sights.
- Photos show a typical vehicle in each class, not a specific car. The exact model is confirmed a day before travel.
What you are paying for
Vehicle + guide, 10% offThe private price is the vehicle for one day plus the driver or guide for one day. We take 10% off the sum and round up to a whole dollar, so the number on the booking panel is exactly what you are charged. A sedan with an English guide comes to $322 for the day instead of $357; with a Chinese-speaking driver only it is $256.
Driver and guides, per day
One day means up to 10 hours of vehicle and driver time within the city and its surrounding scenic areas. Extra hours, a second day or a drop-off in another city are quoted on request.
Free cancellation up to 7 days before the tour · 20% inside 6–3 days · 60% inside 2–1 days · nothing on the day. Cancellation policy

Questions people ask first
On vehicles up to 9 seats the guide may drive — one person who handles the road and explains the sights. On larger vehicles a dedicated driver is added and the guide stays with you. If you choose “Chinese driver only”, the driver handles transport and logistics but does not guide inside the sights.
Yes, admission is separate. Some sights — the Terracotta Army, Mogao Caves, Zhangjiajie — sell timed-entry tickets and do sell out. Book those in advance, or ask us which ones need it.
Two days is usually enough. We do not accept bookings for today or tomorrow — the operator needs a day to assign a vehicle and a guide.
