นั่งรถไฟจากกรุงเทพฯ ไปหัวหิน: เมืองชายทะเลที่ไม่ต้องพึ่งสนามบิน
Hua Hin is the closest real beach to Bangkok, and the train drops you in the middle of it — the station itself is a 1920s royal pavilion that people photograph before they check in. Ten trains a day make it one of the easiest journeys in Thailand, provided you pick the right departure.
The shape of the day
The timetable is lopsided. There is one good morning train, then nothing until mid-afternoon, then a run of long-distance sleepers passing through on their way south. If you want to arrive before lunch you need the morning service; otherwise plan for an evening arrival.

Which class to take
- Air-conditioned railcar — the fast morning train and the late-evening one. Seats only, quickest, and the most comfortable option for this distance.
- Second class fan — windows down, vendors walking the aisle, a couple of hours longer. Good value and the most sociable carriage on the line.
- Third class — bench seats, cheapest by a wide margin, and perfectly fine for four hours if you are not carrying much.
- Sleepers — several overnight trains call at Hua Hin on their way to the deep south. A berth for a three-hour hop is poor value unless nothing else fits.
Three stations in Bangkok, one correct answer
Southern-line trains to Hua Hin leave from Krung Thep Aphiwat. A handful of slow ordinary trains still use Thon Buri and Hua Lamphong — they are the cheapest way down and take about four and a half hours, but they leave early and are third class only.
Check the departure station on each result rather than assuming, because the two cheaper services and the fast one do not start from the same place.
Arriving in Hua Hin
- The station is in the centre of town — most hotels within a ten-minute walk or a short ride.
- Songthaews (white pick-up trucks) run along the main road for a flat local fare.
- The beach is a few minutes east of the station, past the fishing pier.
- Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons are the local exodus; trains and roads both fill.
Worth knowing
- Tickets for the fast railcar go on sale about a month ahead and sell out in peak season; the slower trains are usually available on the day.
- Duration ranges from about three hours to four and a half depending on how many halts the train serves.
- Returning is easier in the afternoon: there is a comfortable daytime service back to Bangkok and a cluster of overnight trains passing through before dawn.

Questions people ask
How long does the train take from Bangkok to Hua Hin?
About three hours on the fast air-conditioned railcar and four to four and a half hours on the ordinary and rapid services.
Is the train better than the minibus to Hua Hin?
The train is slower but far more comfortable and does not sit in traffic. The minibus from Ekkamai is quicker on paper and much less predictable on a Friday evening.
Do trains to Hua Hin leave from Hua Lamphong?
Most leave from Krung Thep Aphiwat. A few slow ordinary trains still use Thon Buri and Hua Lamphong — check each departure rather than assuming.
Can I book a sleeper just for Hua Hin?
You can, but it is poor value: Hua Hin is a small part of a much longer overnight route, and you pay for a berth you barely use.
