Nanning Wuxu Airport (NNG) to Nanning city centre

The line everybody searches for: Nanning has no metro to its airport, and the official plan puts construction in the next Five-Year Plan at the earliest. Today you go in by ¥20 airport bus, by train from the station under Terminal 2, or by taxi.

In short

Nanning Wuxu International Airport has no metro, and that is the official position rather than a gap in our data. The Nanning Municipal Transport Bureau, in the draft Nanning Public Transport Plan it put out for comment on 23 September 2026, still describes airport Line S1 phase one, from Wuxu Airport to Nadan, as a project whose preliminary work is being speeded up with construction targeted for the 15th Five-Year Plan period. In plain terms the line is not built, has no opening date, and will not be carrying passengers for years, so waiting for a metro train is not an option. To reach the metro today you take an airport bus: since 25 November 2025 every city line calls at a metro interchange, and Nahong overpass replaced the old Yihe Xinyuan Hotel stop, with coaches running to Nahong Exit F from 07:45 to 21:30 and later with flight traffic, and from Nahong to the airport between 06:50 and 22:50. Between them the five lines touch metro lines 1, 2, 4 and 5. Getting into the city itself comes down to three choices. First, the airport bus: all five city lines charge a flat ¥20, tickets are sold inside the arrivals hall to the right of Exit 6 at Terminal 2, and Line 1 to Nanning station and the Civil Aviation Hotel runs from 08:00 until the last flight of the day, leaving after 22:00 as passengers arrive, which makes it the only scheduled public transport still running late. It takes 50 to 60 minutes and departs roughly every 30 minutes; Line 2 serves Minzu Square and the Waton International Hotel, Line 3 serves Guangxi University and the zoo, and Line 5 serves Wuxiang and the Liyuan V-Garden Hotel. Second, high-speed rail: Wuxu Airport station sits on levels B1 and B2 of the transport hub in front of Terminal 2, Guangxi first underground high-speed station, reached by dropping to B1 from arrivals, following the railway signs about 100 metres and turning left at the T-junction, officially under 200 metres and five minutes on foot. Nanning station is 15 minutes away with second class from ¥14, and Nanning East 29 minutes away from ¥22. The catch is frequency, only about six trains a day to Nanning and ten to Nanning East, so check the day before you commit. Third, a taxi or a ride-hailing car from the kerb outside Exit 6 of the Terminal 2 arrivals hall, taxis to the front-left and ride-hailing to the front-right, both around the clock, metered under tariff document Nan Jiage [2013] No. 55: ¥9 for the first 2 km by day and ¥11 between 23:00 and 06:00, then ¥2 per km, plus ¥0.20 per 200 m beyond 7 km and ¥0.40 per 200 m beyond 18 km, with road and bridge tolls paid by you. The airport is about 32 km from the centre and third-party travel sites quote ¥80–100 and some 40 minutes, which is a reference range and not an official price.

How to take each option

Airport bus Line 1: ¥20 to Nanning station

Time 50–60 min; 08:00 until the last flightFare ¥20
  1. After baggage claim buy your ticket inside the Terminal 2 arrivals hall, at the counter to the right of Exit 6, or pay at the coach; the enquiry line is 0771-2881666.
  2. Follow the airport bus signs to the boarding area on the Terminal 2 arrivals level; the official timetable marks Line 1 at Exit 2, but trust the signs on site.
  3. Pay ¥20 and board for the 50 to 60 minute run, with departures roughly every 30 minutes. It calls at Nahong overpass, metro Exit F, and services after 21:30 also stop at Xingguang Pingxi Road and Chaoyang Beining Road.
  4. It finishes at Nanning station, the Civil Aviation Hotel at 82 Chaoyang Road, right beside the railway station; for the metro, get off at Nahong overpass and change to lines 1, 2, 4 or 5.

This is the only line that runs to the last flight of the day, departing after 22:00 as passengers arrive, so it is still there when you land late. In the other direction coaches leave the Civil Aviation Hotel from 05:30 to 22:30.

High-speed rail from the station under Terminal 2

Time From 15 min to Nanning stationFare ¥14–16 second class
  1. Check that day departures from Wuxu Airport station on 12306 or in the search box above first: only about six trains a day run to Nanning and ten to Nanning East, and that scarcity is the real constraint.
  2. Follow the railway signs down to level B1, walk about 100 metres and turn left at the T-junction for the entrance. Officially the transfer is under 200 metres and five minutes on foot.
  3. Clear security and board: Nanning station is 15 minutes away at best for ¥14–16 in second class, and Nanning East 29 to 36 minutes for ¥22–25.
  4. Nanning station sits in the old centre by Chaoyang Square, so you step out already downtown; for the eastern end of Minzu Avenue or an onward high-speed train, buy through to Nanning East instead.

Wuxu Airport station sits on the Nanning-Chongzuo section of the Nanning-Pingxiang high-speed line and is Guangxi first underground high-speed station; trains running the other way from Nanning serve the border at Chongzuo South, 29 minutes and ¥41–45, and Pingxiang East.

Lines 2, 3 and 5: pick the one serving your hotel

Fare ¥20
  1. For Minzu Avenue, MixC or Jinhu Square take Line 2: airport to Nahong overpass, Xingguang Pingxi Road, Minzu Square and the Waton International Hotel at 88 Minzu Avenue, 60 to 70 minutes.
  2. For Guangxi University and the zoo take Line 3: airport to the Jiayang Bitian Hotel on Jiangnan Zhuangjin Avenue, Guangxi University, then the zoo at the Vienna International Hotel, 158 Daxue East Road, 60 to 70 minutes.
  3. For Wuxiang new district take Line 5: airport to Feixing Xindu, Pingle Tanxing Road, Wuxiang Headquarters Base and the Liyuan V-Garden International Hotel at 2 Libin Avenue, 60 to 70 minutes; intermediate stops in the city need a booking.
  4. All three board outside Exit 6 on the Terminal 2 arrivals level, with tickets sold at the same counter inside to the right of Exit 6, and all three cost ¥20.

Per the Nanning municipal government notice of 12 June 2026, Line 2 runs airport to city 08:10 to 21:30 and Line 3 08:30 to 19:30; the airport own May 2026 timetable instead gives 07:45 to 21:15 and 08:30 to 20:30, and this page follows the newer municipal figures.

Taxi or ride-hailing

Time About 40 min (third-party)Fare Metered
  1. Follow the taxi signs to the rank at the front-left outside Exit 6 of the Terminal 2 arrivals hall, staffed around the clock, and ignore anyone who approaches you inside the terminal.
  2. Show the driver the Chinese name and address of your hotel, ask for the meter rather than a negotiated price, and check the meter has started as you settle in.
  3. Pay what the meter shows plus any road and bridge tolls, ask for the receipt and note the cab number. Complaints go to 12328 and the airport hotline is 0771-96365, 24 hours.
  4. For ride-hailing walk to the pick-up point at the front-right outside Exit 6, separate from the taxi rank; drivers accept the job in the car park and pick up at the kerb, so allow two or three minutes after ordering.

No official airport-to-centre fare is published. What you can check is the tariff, document Nan Jiage [2013] No. 55 in force since 20 March 2014; third-party travel sites quote about ¥80–100 and 40 minutes to the centre, which is a reference range and not an official price.

Late-night and early-morning arrivals

If you land late, take airport bus Line 1: it runs from 08:00 until the last flight of the day and after 22:00 departs as passengers arrive, making it the only scheduled public transport still running through the night, while Lines 2, 3 and 5 finish at 21:30 and 19:30. Taxis and ride-hailing cars work around the clock and are the only guaranteed option, with the flag fall rising from ¥9 to ¥11 between 23:00 and 06:00. High-speed rail does not cover late nights: the published opening hours of Wuxu Airport station are 07:35 to 22:00, yet the timetable for 31 October 2026 shows a last departure at 23:03 towards Nanning East, and no formal railway notice reconciles the two, so check 12306 for your travel date. No metro reaches the airport at all, so there is no rail option in the small hours.

Questions travellers ask

Is there a metro at Nanning airport?

No, and that is the official position. The Nanning Municipal Transport Bureau, in the draft public transport plan released for comment on 23 September 2026, still describes airport Line S1 phase one, Wuxu Airport to Nadan, as preliminary work being speeded up with construction aimed at the 15th Five-Year Plan period, which means it has not started and has no opening date. To reach the metro, take an airport bus: the five lines connect with metro lines 1, 2, 4 and 5.

What is the fastest way from Nanning airport to the city centre?

When the timetable cooperates it is the train: Wuxu Airport station under Terminal 2 reaches Nanning station in 15 minutes for ¥14–16, and Nanning station is already in the old centre by Chaoyang Square. Only about six trains a day run that way, though, so waiting can exceed the ride; ignoring departures, airport bus Line 1 at 50 to 60 minutes for ¥20 is the dependable choice, with taxis quoted at about 40 minutes by third-party sites.

What is the cheapest way into Nanning?

The train wins at ¥14 second class to Nanning station, ¥14–16 depending on the service, and the five airport bus lines are a flat ¥20 wherever you are going. Air-rail transfer passengers can do better still: with a same-day train ticket and flight booking, one single bus trip between Nanning East or Nanning station and the airport is free during bus hours, valid until 31 December 2026, enquiries on 0771-96365.

There is no metro, so how do I reach the metro network?

By airport bus. Since 25 November 2025 every line calls at a metro interchange, and Nahong overpass replaced the old Yihe Xinyuan Hotel stop, with coaches running to Nahong Exit F from 07:45 to 21:30 and later with flight traffic, and from Nahong towards the airport between 06:50 and 22:50. Between them the lines reach metro lines 1, 2, 4 and 5.

How much is the airport bus and how long does it take?

A flat ¥20 on all five city lines. Line 1 to Nanning station and the Civil Aviation Hotel takes 50 to 60 minutes and runs about every 30 minutes; Line 2 to Minzu Square and the Waton International Hotel takes 60 to 70 minutes, about every 40; Line 3 to Guangxi University and the zoo takes 60 to 70 minutes, roughly hourly; Line 4 to Nanning East takes 60 to 70 minutes; and Line 5 to Wuxiang and the Liyuan V-Garden Hotel takes 60 to 70 minutes.

What time does the last airport bus leave?

Line 1 runs until the last flight of the day, departing after 22:00 as passengers arrive, and is the only public transport still running late. Line 2 finishes at 21:30 from the airport, Lines 3 and 5 at 19:30, and Line 4 to Nanning East at 18:15, using the latest figures from the municipal notice of 12 June 2026 and the airport timetable.

How much is a taxi from Nanning airport to the city centre?

No such official figure exists. Only the tariff can be checked, document Nan Jiage [2013] No. 55: ¥9 for the first 2 km by day, ¥2 per km, plus ¥0.20 per 200 m beyond 7 km and ¥0.40 per 200 m beyond 18 km, with tolls on top. Third-party travel sites quote roughly ¥80–100 and 40 minutes, which is a reference range rather than an official price.

Can I pay with a foreign card, Alipay or WeChat Pay?

No official page sets out payment methods. In practice cash, Alipay and WeChat Pay QR codes work while foreign plastic usually does not, so carry some cash or link an international card to Alipay or WeChat Pay before you fly. Bus tickets come from the counter to the right of Exit 6, so have cash or a QR wallet ready there too.

Is there any public transport if I land late at night?

Yes, but only one: airport bus Line 1 runs to the last flight and after 22:00 departs as passengers arrive. High-speed rail does not cover late nights, with published hours of 07:35 to 22:00 conflicting with a 23:03 last departure that day, so trust 12306, and no metro serves the airport. The reliable answers are the taxi rank at the front-left outside Exit 6 and the ride-hailing point at the front-right, both open 24 hours.

Is the train manageable with big suitcases?

Yes. Wuxu Airport station sits on levels B1 and B2 of the hub in front of Terminal 2, officially under 200 metres and five minutes from arrivals: down to B1, about 100 metres along the signs, left at the T-junction, all of it under cover. The thing to weigh is frequency, about six trains a day to Nanning, so with heavy bags and an inconvenient departure a taxi is often simpler.

I need Nanning East rather than the centre, does that change things?

It does, and there is a separate page for it. Nanning East is quickest on the same train, 29 minutes for ¥22–25, with airport bus Line 4 running direct to the city air-terminal on its south square from 07:45 to 18:15 for ¥20 and 60 to 70 minutes. For the city centre, buy to Nanning station instead, 15 minutes and ¥14–16.

How many terminals are there, and can I get lost?

Every verified ground-transport fact here concerns Terminal 2: bus tickets are sold inside the arrivals hall to the right of Exit 6 with the coaches outside on the arrivals level, and taxis and ride-hailing cars wait at the front-left and front-right of Exit 6 respectively. Nothing about Terminal 1 ground transport has been verified, so this page says nothing about it.
