Usually yes. Nationals of 57 countries can enter visa-free for up to 240 hours under the transit policy, provided they hold a confirmed onward ticket to a third country or region. You need a passport valid for at least three months and you must enter through one of the 65 approved ports. The rule is set by China's National Immigration Administration — check it before you fly, because eligibility is decided at the border, not by us.
Layover tours in China
You have a connection in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Xi'an or Chengdu. Instead of eight hours in a terminal, spend them at a water town, on the Great Wall or with the pandas — with a driver who knows the drive back to your gate.
Can you actually leave the airport?
The 240-hour transit ruleChina's 240-hour visa-free transit policy covers nationals of 57 countries arriving at 65 approved ports, travelling on to a third country or region. In practice: a US, UK, Australian or Japanese passport with a confirmed onward ticket can walk out of the terminal and come back the same day. If your passport is not on the list, or your next flight returns to where you came from, you need a visa and this does not apply.
- Your passport nationality is on the 57-country list
- Your onward ticket goes to a third country, not back home
- You arrive and depart through one of the approved ports
- There are at least six hours between landing and take-off

The rules we do not bend
Timing, luggage, riskWe handle
- Airport pick-up at arrivals with a name board, and the drive back to your terminal
- Watching your flight number and moving the pick-up if you are late
- Airport left-luggage fees, if you would rather not carry your bags
- Working backwards from your departure time so the day fits
We cannot
- Guarantee a visa-free entry — that decision belongs to the border officer
- Absorb a missed onward flight caused by traffic, closures or weather
- Take a booking where the maths leaves under an hour at the sight
- Hold a car without your flight numbers — we need them to plan the drive
We work backwards from your departure time: three hours back for check-in and security, then the drive, then the visit. If the maths leaves less than an hour at the sight, we will tell you not to book.
A layover is charged like any other private day: the car, driver and guide are held for you for the whole day, whether you use four hours or nine. Nothing is charged per hour.
A layover is charged like a private day, so the private-day table applies: free 7+ days before, then 20% / 60% / nothing on the day. Cancellation policy

Questions people ask first
Six hours is the practical minimum, and only in Guangzhou where the airport is closest to the city. Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an and Chengdu need seven to eight hours because of the drive. We count from landing to take-off and reserve three hours at the airport before departure.
Three options: it stays in the car (two large cases in a sedan, four in the seven-seat MPV), your guide stores it while you walk, or you leave it at the airport — we pay the left-luggage fee.
Like any private day: from $256 per vehicle for the day, whatever the number of hours. The car, driver and guide are held for you for the whole day, so a four-hour tour costs the same as a nine-hour one.
Tell us your flight number when you book — we track it and adjust the pick-up. If the flight is so late that the tour no longer works, we cancel and refund in full. What we cannot absorb is a missed onward flight caused by traffic, road closures or weather, which is why we refuse bookings that look tight.
