Airport buses at Wuhan Tianhe (WUH): routes, fares and boarding points

Two paid lines price by stop, one free shuttle serves Wuhan station only, and a free terminal-transfer bus links T2 with T3. Everything paid runs from 08:30 to the last flight.

In short

Coach transport here comes in four layers. First there are two paid trunk lines: Line 1 towards Hankou and Wuchang, Line 2 towards Wuhan Railway Station, both running 08:30 until the last flight at roughly every 30 minutes, which is also why they are the only cheap option left for a late arrival. Line 1 prices by stop: ¥10 to Garden Expo Park North and the Minhang community, ¥12 to Hankou Railway Station, Fanhu and Qingnian Road, ¥15 to Guqintai, ¥18 to Shouyi Square, and ¥20 to Wuchang Railway Station and the Wushan Mengshidai mall. Line 2 does the same: ¥10 to Yangchahu and Jinqiao, ¥12 to Huangpu Road, ¥15 to Xudong and Yuejiazui, ¥18 to Dongting, ¥20 to Chuhe Han Street and Hongshan Square, and ¥45 through to Wuhan Railway Station. Second is the free air-rail shuttle at ¥0, available to anyone holding a flight ticket plus a G- or D-series train ticket within 48 hours, with ten departures from the airport between 09:25 and 17:55 — roughly hourly off-peak and every 30 minutes at peak — an hour on board, and only one destination, the bus stop on Wuhan Railway Station East Square. You must register face to face first at the airport bus desk inside door 12 of T3 or door 9 of T2, open 08:30 to 18:30 during the trial, and after the 17:55 last run eligible passengers switch to Line 2 free from 18:15 until the last flight. Third comes the free Konggang Route 3 shuttle between T2 and T3, also ¥0, every five minutes or so from 06:00 to 23:00, and unavoidable if you must move between terminals or reach the metro and railway — unless you prefer the 890 m corridor, about ten minutes on foot. Fourth are the long-distance coaches to Huangshi, Ezhou, Jingmen, Guangshui, Xiantao and other Hubei cities; the airport confirms these routes exist but publishes no timetable and no fares, so every field below is left blank on purpose and your only route to information is the hotline on 13387631827 or the counter itself. Ticketing and boarding: paid lines and long-distance coaches are sold at doors 9–10 of Level 1 at T2 and inside door 12 of T3, or through the official WeChat mini-program; coaches seat 48 and the hotline is 13387631827.

How to take each option

Buying a ticket and boarding, step by step

  1. After baggage claim, head for the airport bus counter: tickets are sold at doors 9–10 of Level 1 at Terminal 2 and inside door 12 at Terminal 3, or through the official WeChat mini-program.
  2. Tell the conductor which stop you want, because fares are graduated by stop: the same line runs anywhere from ¥10 to ¥20, so the number on the front is not enough.
  3. Queue where the staff direct you, at the same boarding area, and check the destination board on the front of the coach. These are 48-seat vehicles leaving roughly every 30 minutes, and seats are first come, first served.
  4. Stow big bags in the hold underneath and keep valuables with you. Listen for announcements or watch your own map as you approach your stop, since coaches only call at their listed stops.

The paid lines all run 08:30 until the last flight of the day at roughly every 30 minutes, so a late arrival need not panic: as long as aircraft are landing there will be coaches, and once the metro closes at 23:00 they are the only cheap option left. Hotline 13387631827.

Riding the free shuttle to Wuhan station

Time About one hourFare ¥0 with a flight plus G/D train ticket within 48 hoursFirst 09:25Last 17:55
  1. Confirm eligibility first: you need a flight ticket and a G- or D-series high-speed ticket for the same 48-hour window.
  2. Register in person at the airport bus desk inside door 12 of T3, or door 9 of T2, showing both legs of your itinerary and your ID between 08:30 and 18:30 during the trial period.
  3. Board at the third airport bus bay outside door 12 of Level 1 at T3, a bay dedicated to this service rather than the stopping points for Lines 1 and 2.
  4. Match your plans to the ten departures between 09:25 and 17:55, roughly every 30 minutes at peak and hourly off-peak, arriving at East Square about an hour later; miss the last one and you ride Line 2 free from 18:15.

The operator labels this service a trial, so eligibility, times and the registration desk may all change; the safest move is to confirm on 027-96577 extension 3, the transfer hotline, before you fly.

Using Lines 1 and 2 to reach a railway station

  1. Read the station printed on your ticket: Wuchang lies south of the Yangtze, Hankou in the northern district, and Wuhan station is the eastern high-speed hub.
  2. For Wuchang take Line 1 at ¥20, the top fare on that route. For Hankou take Line 1 at ¥12 and get off at the Fazhan Avenue bus stop.
  3. For Wuhan station take Line 2 at ¥45, about an hour on board; to save money use Metro Line 2 then Line 4 at ¥8 and around 96 minutes, or take the free shuttle if you qualify.
  4. With heavy bags, little time and a late landing, do not economise on the coach: the difference between these three routes matters less than getting there, and a taxi is the steadier choice.

The airport only publishes 08:30 to last flight and roughly every 30 minutes, with no time to individual stops, so apart from the one-hour run on Line 2 to Wuhan station this page quotes no journey times.

Moving between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3

Fare ¥0First 06:00Last 23:00
  1. Take the free Konggang Route 3 shuttle: door 12 at Terminal 3 for both directions, door 7 of Level 1 at Terminal 2 for drop-off and door 10 for pick-up, every five minutes or so from 06:00 to 23:00.
  2. Alternatively use the 890 m corridor between the terminals, about ten minutes on foot, which is often faster if you are travelling light.
  3. Metro Line 2 and Tianhe Airport railway station are both on the T3 side, so leave the metro by exit A and follow the signs across.

The ride is free and frequent, but it stops at 23:00: arriving at T2 in the small hours and needing T3 means either walking the corridor or paying for a cab around the airfield.

If a coach is not the right answer

  1. Simply getting into town: Metro Line 2 towards Fozuling reaches Hankou Railway Station in about 40 minutes for ¥7, from 06:00 on weekdays and 06:30 on holidays until the 23:00 last train.
  2. Heading to Hankou and in a hurry: Tianhe Airport railway station runs intercity trains there in about 12 minutes from ¥7–8 in second class, with roughly 35 departures a day.
  3. Door to door, or three or four travelling together: taxis are metered from the ranks outside door 7 of Level 1 at T2 and door 12 of Level 1 at T3, with third-party ranges of ¥80–130 and about 45 minutes to the centre as a non-official guide.

The real strengths of the coaches are carrying luggage straight to a city-centre stop and keeping running after dark, not speed. If speed is what you need, look at the taxi and the intercity train instead.

Late-night and early-morning arrivals

Two of the things still moving at night are the coaches: Line 1 at ¥10–20 across Hankou and Wuchang and Line 2 at ¥45 through to Wuhan station both keep going roughly every 30 minutes until the last flight, with no printed last-departure time but a schedule that follows whatever lands. They are also the only cheap option left once the metro shuts at 23:00. Two free services also exist, though both stop earlier: the air-rail shuttle takes nothing after 17:55, and the Konggang Route 3 terminal bus stops at 23:00, after which the 890 m corridor is the way between terminals. A taxi at three in the morning costs no penalty either, since Wuhan taxi tariffs contain no night surcharge.

Questions travellers ask

How much is an airport bus ticket?

Fares are graduated by stop. Line 1 costs ¥10–20, with ¥12 to Hankou Railway Station and ¥20 to Wuchang Railway Station; Line 2 costs ¥10–45, with ¥45 through to Wuhan Railway Station. The air-rail shuttle and the Konggang Route 3 terminal bus are both free.

Where do I buy an airport bus ticket?

At the staffed counters at doors 9–10 of Level 1 at Terminal 2 and inside door 12 at Terminal 3, or through the official WeChat mini-program. Both paid lines use 48-seat coaches, and the hotline is 13387631827.

How often do the buses run, and when is the last one?

The paid lines run roughly every 30 minutes from 08:30 until the last flight of the day. There is no printed last departure: the service winds down after the final arrival.

Is there really a free bus?

Two of them. The free air-rail shuttle carries anyone holding a flight ticket plus a G- or D-series high-speed ticket within 48 hours, with ten runs from the airport between 09:25 and 17:55 to Wuhan Railway Station East Square in about an hour. Konggang Route 3 is the free link between T2 and T3, every five minutes from 06:00 to 23:00.

Where exactly does the free shuttle leave from?

The third airport bus bay outside door 12 of Level 1 at Terminal 3. Before boarding you must register in person with both legs of your itinerary and your ID at the airport bus desk inside door 12 of T3, or door 9 of T2, between 08:30 and 18:30 during the trial.

How long does the bus take to Hankou Railway Station?

The airport publishes no journey time to individual stops, so this page quotes none. What can be said is that Line 2 takes about an hour to Wuhan Railway Station and the fare to Hankou Railway Station on Line 1 is ¥12.

Which line takes me to Wuhan station?

Line 2 at ¥45 takes about an hour and is the simplest; eligible travellers should try the free shuttle first, between 09:25 and 17:55; and the cheapest is Metro Line 2 to Line 4 at ¥8 over roughly 96 minutes.

How do I get between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3?

The free Konggang Route 3 shuttle picks up and drops at door 12 of T3, dropping at door 7 of Level 1 at T2 and picking up at door 10, every five minutes or so from 06:00 to 23:00. The 890 m corridor is also open, about ten minutes on foot.

Are there coaches to Huangshi, Ezhou or Jingmen?

The routes exist, but the airport publishes neither times nor fares, so those fields are deliberately blank here. Call 13387631827 or ask at the counter at doors 9–10 of Level 1 at T2 or inside door 12 of T3. Specific prices circulating on the web are not confirmed by the airport and are not reproduced here.

Can I still get a bus if I land late at night?

Yes. The two paid lines run until the last flight roughly every 30 minutes, so as long as aircraft are landing there is a coach. The free shuttle will not help after 17:55, and the terminal bus stops at 23:00.
