Chengdu Shuangliu Airport (CTU) to Chengdu city centre

There is no daytime airport coach any more, so getting into town comes down to Metro Line 10, a taxi or a ride-hailing car. The fastest rail option is the intercity train beneath Terminal 2, but it goes to Chengdu East and Chengdu South rather than the centre.

In short

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport sits in Shuangliu District, south-west of the centre, and both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 have their own metro station. The backbone into town is Metro Line 10: the T1 entrance is outside exit 4 on the arrivals level, while the T2 entrance is in the L2, L3 and L4 corridors on Level B2. Take a train towards Wuhou Shrine and change at Taipingyuan — Line 3 for Chunxi Road, Line 7 for Chengdu East Railway Station and the north railway station. Chunxi Road is about 50 minutes away end to end. Towards the city the first train leaves Terminal 2 at 06:00 and Terminal 1 at 06:03, and the last is 23:12 from Terminal 2 and 23:15 from Terminal 1. One caveat: Chengdu Metro publishes no official fare for individual origin-destination pairs, so the "about ¥5–7" quoted here comes from third-party routing queries and is not an official price. The second way in is a taxi or a ride-hailing car. Taxis queue about 50 m south of Exit 6 on the T1 arrivals level and at the pedestrian crossing on the T2 arrivals level, and they run on the meter: the trip to Tianfu Square or Chunxi Road takes about 30–45 minutes, and the ¥60–90 bracket quoted on this page is a third-party travel-site reference range rather than an official fare. The third option is night airport express route 1 to Chunxi Road, a flat ¥2 running 21:00 to 04:30, which only helps late at night. If your real destination is in the east of the city, or you need to catch a high-speed train, the fastest route is a different one altogether: the intercity station directly beneath T2 reaches Chengdu East in 15 minutes and Chengdu South in 10, second class ¥8 either way.

How to take each option

Metro Line 10, then Line 3 to Chunxi Road

Time About 50 minFare About ¥5–7 (third-party query)First 06:00Last 23:12
  1. Follow the metro signs in the arrivals hall: on Line 10 the T1 entrance is outside exit 4 on the arrivals level, and the T2 entrance is in the L2, L3 and L4 corridors on Level B2.
  2. Buy a single-journey token at the machines, or tap through the gate with a QR code from the Chengdu Metro app, Alipay or WeChat; fares inside the city run to only a few yuan.
  3. Board a train towards Wuhou Shrine. The first train leaves Terminal 2 at 06:00 and Terminal 1 at 06:03; the last is 23:12 from Terminal 2 and 23:15 from Terminal 1.
  4. Change inside the station at Taipingyuan: Line 3 for Chunxi Road, Line 7 for Chengdu East Railway Station or the north railway station. Just follow the line-number signs.
  5. Chunxi Road is about 50 minutes away in total. For hotels around Tianfu Square, get off at the nearest interchange and follow the exit signs.

Chengdu Metro publishes neither an official fare for individual origin-destination pairs nor a fixed headway for Line 10, so the "about ¥5–7 and about 50 minutes" figures come from third-party routing queries and are indicative only. First and last train times follow the airport website; check station notices for any temporary change.

Taxi or ride-hailing

Time About 30–45 min (third-party)Fare Metered
  1. Follow the taxi signs to the official rank: about 50 m south of Exit 6 on the T1 arrivals level, and at the pedestrian crossing on the T2 arrivals level.
  2. Show the driver your hotel name and address in Chinese, say you want the meter, and ignore anyone who approaches you inside the terminal.
  3. On arrival pay the metered amount plus any expressway toll, and ask for a receipt.
  4. For ride-hailing, follow the signs to the designated car park: the T1 ride-hailing park lies due east of the T1 car park, and the T2 one south-west of the T2 car park.

The trip to Tianfu Square or Chunxi Road takes about 30–45 minutes. The ¥60–90 bracket is a reference range from third-party travel sites, not an official price: the city publishes only the tariff formula (¥8 for the first 2 km, then ¥1.9 per km, with a 50% empty-return surcharge past 10 km).

Night airport express route 1 (Chunxi Road, ¥2)

Fare ¥2First 21:00Last 04:30
  1. After 21:00 follow the airport express signs to the bay: about 60 m south of Exit 6 on the T1 arrivals level, or platform 4 outside Exit 15 on the T2 arrivals level.
  2. Buy a ticket in the Chengdu Bus app or its WeChat and Alipay mini-programs, or simply pay on board. The fare is ¥2.
  3. Take the coach signed for Chunxi Road. It calls at Nijiaqiao, Sichuan Gymnasium, Huaxiba, Jinjiang Hotel, Yanshikou and Zongfu Road before terminating at the north end of the Chunxi Road pedestrian street.
  4. Coaches run roughly every 40 to 70 minutes until 04:30; if the wait is too long, take a taxi instead.

This is currently the only airport express route from Shuangliu into the city. It runs 21:00 to 04:30 towards Chunxi Road and 22:00 to 05:30 back to the airport, and the official page gives no total journey time. It does not run by day — ignore the old lines 1, 2 and 3 that travel sites still list.

The intercity train beneath T2 (to Chengdu East and Chengdu South)

Time 15 min to Chengdu East, 10 min to Chengdu SouthFare ¥8 second classFirst 06:20Last 22:50
  1. From the T2 arrivals level follow the blue high-speed rail signs down to Level B2 and into the L3 corridor, about 5 to 10 minutes on foot to Shuangliu Airport station.
  2. The station opens at 06:20 and closes at 22:50 with about 23 pairs of trains a day at uneven intervals, so check live departures on 12306 before committing.
  3. The fastest trains reach Chengdu East in 15 minutes and Chengdu South in 10, second class ¥8 either way, and you continue by metro or taxi from there.

It serves Chengdu East and Chengdu South rather than the centre, so it only pays off if you are catching a train or staying east of town. Terminal 1 has no direct passage to the railway station: take the free shuttle (roughly 06:00 to 00:40 daily) or walk about 8 minutes to T2 first.

Late-night and early-morning arrivals

The metro finishes early: the last Line 10 train towards the city leaves Terminal 2 at 23:12 and Terminal 1 at 23:15, Line 30 stops at 23:10, and the last Line 19 train towards Jinxing leaves Terminal 2 East at 00:16. After that the only public transport still running is night express route 1 to Chunxi Road (¥2, until 04:30, every 40–70 minutes) and Tianfu Airport express night line 5 (¥25, 00:00–05:00, for airport-to-airport transfers only). Taxis and ride-hailing cars run around the clock, with a night tariff from 23:00 to 06:00 that adds ¥1 to the flag fall and ¥0.3 to every kilometre. If you land late and do not fancy waiting for a coach, a taxi is the safe answer.

Questions travellers ask

What is the fastest way from Chengdu Shuangliu Airport to the city centre?

For Chunxi Road, a taxi is quickest off-peak at about 30–45 minutes; at rush hour Metro Line 10 changing to Line 3 is more predictable at about 50 minutes. If you are heading to Chengdu East or Chengdu South for a train, the fastest option is different: the intercity station beneath T2 reaches Chengdu East in 15 minutes and Chengdu South in 10, second class ¥8.

Is there a metro at Chengdu Shuangliu Airport?

Yes — Line 10 serves both terminals, with the T1 entrance outside exit 4 on the arrivals level and the T2 entrance in the L2, L3 and L4 corridors on Level B2. Ride towards Wuhou Shrine and change at Taipingyuan: Line 3 for Chunxi Road in about 50 minutes, Line 7 for Chengdu East Railway Station.

What time is the last metro train from Chengdu airport?

On Line 10 towards the city the last train leaves Terminal 2 at 23:12 and Terminal 1 at 23:15, with the first at 06:00 and 06:03. Line 19 towards Jinxing runs until 00:16 and Line 30 until 23:10. Later than that you need the night coach or a taxi.

Is there still an airport bus into Chengdu?

Not by day. The airport website now lists only two night services: night express route 1 to Chunxi Road at ¥2 between 21:00 and 04:30, and Tianfu Airport express night line 5 at ¥25 between 00:00 and 05:00, which exists for airport-to-airport transfers. The old lines 1, 2 and 3 have been taken off the official site, and the timings and fares on travel sites are out of date.

How much is a taxi from Chengdu airport to the city centre?

No official airport-to-city fare is published, so the only honest figure comes from the tariff itself: ¥8 for the first 2 km, then ¥1.9 per km, with the 10–60 km portion carrying a 50% empty-return surcharge of ¥2.85 per km, plus the airport expressway toll. Third-party travel sites quote ¥60–90 and about 30–45 minutes, and we treat that as a reference range rather than an official price.

What is the cheapest way into Chengdu?

Metro Line 10 changing to Line 3, which costs about ¥5–7 to Chunxi Road. If you land after 21:00, night express route 1 at ¥2 is the cheapest ride in the whole airport, but you may wait 40–70 minutes and it only serves Chunxi Road.

Is there a railway station at Shuangliu Airport?

Yes — Shuangliu Airport station sits directly beneath Terminal 2, with its entrance in the L3 corridor on Level B2, about 5 to 10 minutes on foot. It is a stop on the Chengdu–Mianyang–Leshan intercity line and on the Chengdu–Guiyang high-speed line: 15 minutes to Chengdu East and 10 to Chengdu South, second class ¥8, with the station open 06:20 to 22:50 and about 23 pairs of trains a day.

I land at Terminal 1 — how do I reach the metro or the train?

Terminal 1 has its own Line 10 metro station, entered outside exit 4 on the arrivals level. But there is no direct passage from T1 to the railway station: for the intercity train take the free shuttle (roughly 06:00 to 00:40 daily) or walk about 8 minutes to T2, then enter from the L3 corridor on Level B2.

Can I use a foreign bank card at the airport?

No official source confirms that airport taxis accept foreign bank cards directly. Chengdu taxis generally take cash as well as WeChat Pay and Alipay QR payment, so overseas travellers should carry some cash or link an international card to Alipay or WeChat Pay before flying.

Is the metro manageable with big suitcases?

Both Line 10 stations are inside or right next to the terminals, with lifts and escalators the whole way, which is easier than dragging bags around outside — though the change at Taipingyuan involves a walk. With very heavy luggage, or three or four people travelling together, a taxi door to door is simpler.

Should I take the metro or the train to Chengdu East?

In a hurry, take the intercity train beneath T2: 15 minutes and ¥8, about 23 pairs a day but at uneven intervals, so check 12306 first. If you miss it or the station has closed for the night at 22:50, take Line 10 to Taipingyuan and change to Line 7 — about 50–55 minutes and roughly ¥6 on third-party routing figures.
