Taxis at Zhengzhou Xinzheng Airport (CGO): where to find one and how the fare works

Zhengzhou is unusual among Chinese cities for running an all-electric fleet under a published tariff: ¥10 for the first 3 km, ¥2 per km after that, a 50% empty-run surcharge beyond 12 km and ¥2 at night, all set out in notice Zheng Fa Gai Jia Fu [2020] No. 755.

In short

Taxis at Zhengzhou Xinzheng do not wait at the arrivals kerb. They queue on Level 2 of the ground transport centre beside Terminal 2: walk through link corridor 1 or 2 from the Level 2 arrivals hall and turn left for the taxi rank, or right for ride-hailing. The transport enforcement unit puts it plainly in its own guidance — left for taxis, right for ride-hailing — and anyone who approaches you inside the terminal is best ignored. On the money side, the whole urban fleet is now electric and charged at what a 2.0-litre petrol car used to cost, under the notice on clarifying fares and charges for purely electric cruise taxis issued by the Zhengzhou Development and Reform Commission and the Zhengzhou Transport Bureau on 30 December 2020, numbered Zheng Fa Gai Jia Fu [2020] No. 755. It sets the flag fall at ¥10 covering 3 km; ¥2 for every kilometre beyond that; a 50% empty-run surcharge past 12 km on a one-way trip, which means ¥3 per km; an extra ¥2 for every 5 minutes whenever the car drops below 12 km/h, billed on top of distance; waiting at a passenger’s request costing one kilometre’s rate per 5 minutes; and a ¥2 night supplement on every trip between 22:00 and 05:00. Road and bridge tolls incurred on the way fall to the passenger, which is why the airport expressway toll comes on top of the metered figure. Run those numbers and a 30 km metered ride comes to roughly ¥82 and a 35 km ride to about ¥97, before any supplement or toll. One thing must be said plainly: Zhengzhou has never published an airport-to-city-centre reference fare. The ¥70–110 from third-party travel sites and the ¥80–110 transcribed from the terminal guide board are reference ranges, not official prices, and the meter is what you pay. On payment, the airport publishes no dedicated page; Zhengzhou taxis generally take cash plus WeChat Pay and Alipay QR payment, which is common practice rather than an official promise, and travel guides mention a desk near the international arrivals exit at T2 for linking international cards, though nothing confirms that. Insist on the meter, take the receipt, and if a driver refuses you or quotes a flat rate, note the plate and call 12328. One last nudge: for Zhengzhou East, the intercity train on level B2 of the same building gets there in fifteen to seventeen minutes for ¥12, quicker and cheaper than any cab.

How to take each option

Where to find a taxi or order a car

Time About 34 min to Dongdajie (guide board)Fare Metered
  1. After baggage claim follow the taxi and ride-hailing signs from the arrivals level up to Level 2 of the transport centre and across link corridor 1 or 2.
  2. At the end the corridor forks: left is the taxi rank and right is ride-hailing, exactly as both the airport and the enforcement unit describe it.
  3. Queue in turn on the taxi side and ignore anyone who accosts you inside the terminal.
  4. Show the driver the Chinese name and address of your destination, ask for the meter, and confirm you are taking the airport expressway.
  5. Pay the metered figure plus the expressway toll, adding ¥2 between 22:00 and 05:00, and take the receipt.

The long escalator behind the information desk drops straight to the metro on level B2, so from this one spot you can take either — glance at the prices, then decide. Both run around the clock, so there is no need to worry about being stranded.

How the fare adds up (notice 755)

Fare ¥10 for the first 3 km, then ¥2 per km
  1. The flag fall of ¥10 covers the first 3 km.
  2. From 3 to 12 km we are billed at ¥2 per km, so nine kilometres cost ¥18 and bring the running total to ¥28.
  3. Beyond 12 km the empty-run surcharge adds 50%, making those kilometres ¥3 each: a 30 km metered ride lands near ¥82 and 35 km near ¥97.
  4. Add ¥2 for any trip between 22:00 and 05:00, and note that below 12 km/h in jams or at lights another ¥2 per 5 minutes accrues alongside the distance charge.
  5. Finally, add the airport expressway toll, which the passenger pays; that item is not in the notice but is standard practice, so confirm it when you set off.

The figures of about ¥82 for 30 km and ¥97 for 35 km are worked examples from the published formula, not quotations. The third-party ¥70–110 and the guide board’s ¥80–110 sit in the same band, and none of them is an official price.

Paying, receipts and complaints

  1. Zhengzhou taxis generally take cash plus WeChat Pay and Alipay QR payment, though nothing on the airport site says so officially, so set up payment before flying and carry some cash.
  2. Travel guides mention a payment desk near the international and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan arrivals exit at T2 for linking international cards, but nothing confirms it, so do not count on it.
  3. Pay the metered amount and refuse any proposed flat rate; ask for the receipt, which carries the plate number and complaints numbers.
  4. For refusal, illegal flat-rate bargaining or detours, note the plate and call 12328, the national transport service hotline.

Board only at the official rank and take your turn in the queue. It is the simplest rule here and the most effective: whoever wants to pick you up inside the terminal is usually trying to get around the meter.

When not to take a taxi

  1. Going to Zhengzhou East for a train? Take the intercity service from level B2 instead, fifteen to seventeen minutes for ¥12, less than half what a cab needs.
  2. Travelling alone with light bags in daylight? Metro Chengjiao Line at ¥2–¥7 saves you tens of yuan for an hour and a quarter of your time.
  3. Heading into town at evening peak, roughly 17:30 to 19:30? Traffic stretches the ride badly, and the option immune to it wins.

Where a taxi genuinely earns its fare is the last mile and the small hours: once the metro has stopped at 22:15 and the last intercity train has gone at 22:57, it is the only thing in this building still moving.

Late-night and early-morning arrivals

Zhengzhou keeps its night pricing remarkably restrained: nothing but a ¥2 supplement per trip between 22:00 and 05:00, with no separate night rate beyond that. Taxis and ride-hailing run around the clock from the same spots, taxis on the south side of the Level 2 corridor and ride-hailing on the north. If you land late, watch two closing times: the last city-bound metro at 22:15 and the last intercity train towards Zhengzhou at 22:57. Past both you have taxis, ride-hailing, and the three city express lines that keep running until forty minutes after the last flight.

Questions travellers ask

How much is a taxi from Zhengzhou airport to the city centre?

There is no official fare, only the tariff published in 2020: ¥10 for the first 3 km, ¥2 per km, then ¥3 per km past 12 km on a one-way trip thanks to the 50% empty-run surcharge, plus ¥2 per trip between 22:00 and 05:00 and the expressway toll. Third-party travel sites quote ¥70–110 for 40–50 minutes and the guide board ¥80–110 for about 34 minutes, all reference ranges rather than official prices.

Where is the taxi rank at Zhengzhou airport?

On the south side of the Level 2 corridor in the ground transport centre west of Terminal 2: cross link corridor 1 or 2 from the Level 2 arrivals hall and turn left. Ride-hailing uses the north side of the same level, reached by turning right, and the two queues are separate.

How are Zhengzhou taxis metered, and is there a night surcharge?

¥10 covers the first 3 km, then ¥2 per km, rising to ¥3 per km beyond 12 km on a one-way trip; ¥2 per trip between 22:00 and 05:00; ¥2 per 5 minutes whenever speed drops below 12 km/h; and the expressway toll falls to the passenger. The full text is notice Zheng Fa Gai Jia Fu [2020] No. 755.

Are there taxis if I arrive at Zhengzhou airport late at night?

Yes, around the clock from the same spot, with a ¥2 supplement between 22:00 and 05:00 — Zhengzhou’s only night extra. Once the metro has shut at 22:15 and the last intercity train has gone at 22:57, a cab is one of just two ways out, the other being the city coach that runs until forty minutes after the last flight.

Can I pay my taxi with a foreign bank card?

No official source confirms that airport taxis take foreign cards directly. Zhengzhou taxis generally accept cash plus WeChat Pay and Alipay QR payment as standard practice, and travel guides mention a service desk at T2 for linking cards, though nothing verifies that. The safe move is to link your card to Alipay or WeChat before flying and keep cash as a backup.

How much is a taxi to Zhengzhou East railway station?

No official price exists for this pair, so the trip is metered under the same formula, taking thirty to forty minutes plus the toll. Honestly the better choice is the intercity train in the same building: fifteen to seventeen minutes for ¥12.

Are Zhengzhou taxis electric, and does that change the price?

The urban fleet is now fully electric, yet fares follow the old 2.0-litre petrol standard — that is exactly what notice 755 was written to clarify, so the car never changes what you pay.

What should I do if a driver refuses me or bargains a flat rate?

Take only the queued cars at the official rank and insist on the meter. For refusal, illegal flat-rate bargaining or detours, note the plate and call 12328, the transport service hotline; the receipt carries the plate as evidence.

How long does the taxi take into Zhengzhou?

The guide board says about 34 minutes and third-party sites 40–50, the gap being mostly about time of day and exact address. Allow extra at evening peak, roughly 17:30 to 19:30, or simply take rail.

Do ride-hailing cars and taxis pick up in the same place?

Not the same spot, but the same level: both are on the Level 2 corridor of the transport centre, taxis on the south side and ride-hailing on the north. At the end of the corridor turn left for taxis and right for ride-hailing, following the signs.
