What the day is actually likeA nine-hour city day, and half of it is on foot: the academy and the mountain in the morning, the island after lunch, the old street when the food stalls open.

If you want the Hunan Museum and the Mawangdui finds, this route does not include them — it is a mountain-and-river day.
Yuelu Academy is at the foot of the mountain, not on top. People climb first and arrive at the gate exhausted, or skip it entirely.

- The academy has its own ticket and gate — the closest entrance is from the Hunan University square.
- Orange Isle occasionally closes on Mondays for maintenance. The train is ¥20 a loop; walking takes an hour.
- Huogongdian is the famous snack hall and the queue is real at Qingming and National Day. Weekdays are a different place.
About 5 km on foot. The island is flat, the mountain is not — take the chairlift up with children.

$74 per person on the group tour, or from $256 per vehicle for a private car with driver and guide. The group price includes the driver, guide and admission; the private price is for the whole vehicle, whatever the party size.
How long is the day?
It runs 09:00 to 18:00 — about 9 hours from pick-up to drop-off, including the drive. If you are catching a train or flight the same evening, book it for after 19:30.
Where does it start?
Changsha South Railway Station. Your driver and guide meet you there; the exact spot is confirmed the day before travel.

How far ahead should I book?
Two days. We do not accept same-day or next-day bookings because the car, guide and admission have to be arranged in advance. Cancellation is free up to 7 days before the tour; inside that it steps to 20% (6–3 days) and 60% (2–1 days), and nothing is refunded on the day itself.
