In short
Changsha Huanghua has no national-rail station of its own, so to catch a high-speed train from Changshanan the Changsha Maglev Express is the recommended way across. The Maglev Airport station sits between Terminals 1 and 2 — reached by the connecting corridor without stepping outside, beside the control tower — and runs 16 minutes to Maglev Changshanan for ¥20, where you come out at the north-east corner of Changshanan Railway Station for a seamless change onto the high-speed network. Trains leave every 10 minutes from 07:00, with the last airport departure at 22:30 (23:00 at weekends and on public holidays). The two slower alternatives are the airport bus to Changsha South, which runs 08:45–20:30 from the airport and 08:00–20:00 from the station on rolling 10–15 minute departures with no officially published fare, and a taxi, which takes roughly 25–30 minutes on the meter. The Beijing–Guangzhou and Shanghai–Kunming main lines cross at Changshanan, so from there you can connect onwards to Guangzhou, Shanghai Hongqiao, Xi’an North and beyond.

How to take each option
Changsha Maglev Express (recommended)
Time 16 minFare ¥20First 07:00Last 22:30
- After baggage claim do not leave the building — follow the Maglev signs inside the terminal along the connecting corridor.
- The Maglev Airport station sits between T1 and T2 beside the control tower, a 5–10 minute walk to the concourse.
- Buy a ¥20 single ticket at the counter or a machine (¥10 if you only go as far as Langli). Cash, WeChat Pay, Alipay and UnionPay are all taken.
- Pass through the gates and board; trains run every 10 minutes and reach Maglev Changshanan in 16 minutes.
- You come out at the north-east corner of Changshanan; follow the high-speed signs straight into the departure hall.
The maglev line runs 18.55 km with a single intermediate stop at Langli. It is China’s second commercial maglev line after Shanghai and the first built on wholly home-grown medium-low-speed technology. Maglev Changshanan is co-located with Changshanan Railway Station and Metro Lines 2 and 4.

- Go to the coach bays on the arrivals level of T1 or T2 (T1: bays B1–B5; T2: bays A1–A7).
- Buy a ticket for Changsha South at the bay; coaches leave on rolling 10–15 minute departures.
- Ride to the terminus at Changsha South Railway Station — slower than the maglev, but with no corridor walk or change.
Coaches leave the airport 08:45–20:30 and the station 08:00–20:00. The fare is not published officially — a third-party figure of about ¥20.5 has not been confirmed, so this page leaves it blank. For early-morning or late-evening high-speed trains, use the maglev or a taxi instead.
Taxi or ride-hailing
Time About 25–30 minFare Metered
- Follow the taxi signs to the rank outside the arrivals-level exit of T1 or T2 and queue.
- Show the driver the Chinese characters for Changshanan and say you have a train to catch.
- Pay by the meter plus the airport expressway toll; for ride-hailing, follow the signs to the dedicated pickup zone.
The run to Changshanan takes about 25–30 minutes via the airport expressway. In light traffic the door-to-door time is close to the maglev’s, but it costs far more — it makes sense with heavy bags or three or four travelling together.
Questions travellers ask
How do I get from Changsha Huanghua Airport to Changsha South railway station?
Take the Changsha Maglev Express. The Maglev Airport station is between T1 and T2, a 5–10 minute walk along the corridor, and the ride to Maglev Changshanan takes 16 minutes for ¥20, bringing you out at the north-east corner of Changshanan. If you are in a hurry or land late, a taxi takes about 25–30 minutes.
How long does it take to get from Changsha Airport to Changshanan?
The maglev ride itself is 16 minutes; with the walk to the platform and waiting time, allow roughly 30–35 minutes from landing to the station. A taxi takes about 25–30 minutes but is exposed to traffic.
How much is a maglev ticket to Changshanan?
A flat ¥20 regardless of distance, or ¥10 if you ride only as far as the intermediate Langli stop. The maglev is priced separately from the metro, so metro tickets are not valid on it.
Where is the maglev station in the airport?
The Maglev Airport station sits between Terminals 1 and 2, next to the control tower. You reach it along the terminal corridor — no exit, no footbridge, all indoors, about 5–10 minutes on foot.
Can I board a high-speed train at Changsha Airport?
No — there is no national-rail station inside Huanghua Airport. You first ride the maglev (16 minutes, ¥20) or the airport bus to Changshanan and board there.
How much time should I allow to reach Changshanan?
International arrivals usually take 45–60 minutes from touchdown to the arrivals hall. Add 10 minutes to walk to the maglev platform, up to 10 minutes waiting and a 16-minute ride: allow at least 1.5 hours from landing.
How much is the airport bus to Changsha South?
The fare is not published officially. A third-party source mentions about ¥20.5, but we could not confirm it against an official source, so this page gives no figure — ask at the bay before boarding.
Can I also reach Changshanan by metro?
Yes, but slower. Metro Line 6 to Yingbin Road, then Line 2, reaches Changshanan in about 50 minutes for ¥5. With 16 minutes and ¥20, the maglev is the better choice if you have a train to catch.
Can I pay cash for the maglev?
Yes — cash is accepted at the counters and machines, alongside WeChat Pay, Alipay and UnionPay cards.
Is there any way to Changshanan if I land late?
The maglev’s last departure is 22:30 (23:00 on holidays) and the airport bus stops at 20:30; after that only taxis and ride-hailing remain, running 24 hours with the night tariff from 22:00 to 05:30.
Is the maglev easy with big suitcases?
Yes — the walk from the terminal to the maglev platform is a level corridor the whole way with no stairs, and the platform is roughly flush with the train floor.
