How to take each option

How to board any line

  1. After baggage claim follow the coach station signs to level 1F of the ground transport centre.
  2. Walk to the north-west side and find the coach station ticket counter, then buy a ticket for your destination.
  3. Tickets are registered under a real name, so keep your passport on you; having the Chinese name of your destination on your phone to show the clerk saves a lot of explaining.
  4. Come back to the bays at the departure time on your ticket, find your coach, and put bags in the luggage hold.
  5. Confirm the terminus and the intermediate stops before boarding, particularly on lines with split fares.

The coach station enquiry number is 0571-86662519. Return timetables on the intercity lines are set by local announcements, so this page records the airport-to-destination direction only.

Inside Hangzhou: three night lines

Fare ¥20–28
  1. For Wulin Gate and the old centre take the Wulin Gate line, ¥20 and about 55 minutes, running from 23:30.
  2. For a train, or for Chengzhan, take the Hangzhou East Railway Station line, ¥28 and about 60 minutes, departing 23:50, 00:30, 01:10 and 01:50.
  3. For Binjiang and the Hangzhou International Expo Centre area take the Binjiang line, ¥25, departing 00:25 and 01:30.

All three are night-only services; there are no daytime city coach departures, so use Metro Line 19 by day (22 minutes, ¥7). The Wulin Gate line is the only one with a return service to the airport, at 04:30, 05:00 and 05:30.

Towards Shaoxing and Ningbo (six lines)

  1. For Shaoxing city take the Shaoxing (Keqiao) line, ¥40 and about 90 minutes, 09:00 to 19:50; as far as Keqiao alone costs ¥30.
  2. Shangyu is ¥50 and about 60 minutes, running 09:00 to 21:00, the most frequent line in this group.
  3. Shengzhou is ¥70 (09:55–20:50), Xinchang ¥70 (11:00–17:40) and Cixi ¥70 (10:30–19:15), each about 100 to 150 minutes.
  4. Zhoushan is the longest and dearest run at ¥120 and about 270 minutes, with just two departures a day at 14:00 and 15:00.

Most of this group finishes between 19:00 and 21:00, so a late flight will miss them. Ride Line 19 or a night coach into the city and set off from a city coach station the next morning instead.

Yiwu, Jinhua and central Zhejiang (six lines)

  1. For the Yiwu trade city take the Yiwu line, ¥72 and about 100 minutes, running 08:45 to 21:00, the earliest and latest of this group.
  2. Pujiang is ¥60 (09:50–20:30) and Zhuji ¥50 (10:00–19:05), each about 70 to 100 minutes.
  3. For the Hengdian film studios take the Dongyang (Hengdian) line, ¥110 and about 150 minutes, between 10:30 and 20:30; as far as Dongyang alone is ¥100.
  4. For Jinhua take the Jinhua line, ¥110 and about 130 minutes, 09:30 to 21:00, terminating at Jinhua West Coach Station.
  5. Qingtian is ¥180 and about 270 minutes with no fixed timetable, departing according to flight arrivals, so call 0571-86662519 before you rely on it.

The Yiwu and Jinhua lines carry mostly trade travellers, so large suitcases are routine and the luggage holds are sized for them.

North and west: water towns and bamboo country (four lines)

  1. For Wuzhen take the Wuzhen (Tongxiang) line, ¥60 and about 110 minutes, running 09:10 to 20:10, the most direct of the water-town routes.
  2. Haining is ¥98 and about 60 minutes, 10:10 to 20:00; Pinghu (Haiyan) is ¥75 and about 180 minutes with only two departures at 11:30 and 16:30, or ¥70 as far as Haiyan.
  3. Anji is ¥100 and about 120 minutes, 10:00 to 20:30, which suits anyone heading straight for the bamboo country and its mountain guesthouses.

These lines mostly terminate at a county coach station, and reaching the sights usually means one more local connection, so confirm which county your hotel is in before you book.

Late-night and early-morning arrivals

Once the metro stops, coaches are the only cheap option: the Wulin Gate line from 23:30 (23:30, 23:55, 00:20, 00:40, 01:00, 01:30, then following flight arrivals) at ¥20 and about 55 minutes; the Hangzhou East Railway Station line at 23:50, 00:30, 01:10 and 01:50 for ¥28; and the Binjiang line at 00:25 and 01:30 for ¥25. All three board at the coach station on the north-west side of level 1F of the ground transport centre, and none of them runs by day.

Questions travellers ask

How much are the buses at Hangzhou Airport?

City lines are ¥20–28 (Wulin Gate ¥20, Hangzhou East ¥28, Binjiang ¥25) and intercity lines ¥40–180, from ¥30 for the Keqiao section of the Shaoxing line up to ¥180 for Qingtian.

Where do airport buses leave from?

The coach station on the north-west side of level 1F of the ground transport centre; all nineteen lines leave from there. The enquiry number is 0571-86662519.

Is there a bus into Hangzhou city?

Yes, but only three night services: Wulin Gate, Hangzhou East Railway Station and Binjiang. By day use Metro Line 19, 22 minutes and ¥7, which is far quicker than any coach.

Are there buses if I land late at night?

Yes. The Wulin Gate line runs from 23:30 and follows flight arrivals after 01:30, taking about 55 minutes to the centre for ¥20; the Hangzhou East Railway Station line runs until 01:50 for ¥28; the Binjiang line leaves at 00:25 and 01:30 for ¥25.

How long and how much is the bus to Hangzhou East railway station?

The Hangzhou East Railway Station line is ¥28 and about 60 minutes, departing 23:50, 00:30, 01:10 and 01:50, terminating at Hangzhou East with no return service. By day take Line 19 instead, 22 minutes for ¥7.

Is there a direct bus to Wuzhen?

Yes. The Wuzhen (Tongxiang) line is ¥60 and about 110 minutes, running 09:10 to 20:10 from the coach station in the ground transport centre.

How do I get to Shaoxing or Keqiao by bus?

Take the Shaoxing (Keqiao) line: ¥40 and about 90 minutes to Shaoxing Coach Centre, calling at the Keqiao City Terminal, with ¥30 as far as Keqiao. The first bus is 09:00 and the last 19:50.

Do I need to book the coach in advance?

No, buy at the coach station counter on the spot, but bring your passport because registration is real-name. For busy directions such as Yiwu, Hengdian and Wuzhen arrive at the counter early, since the last coach of the day leaves once it is full.

What about the Zhoushan and Qingtian lines?

Zhoushan is ¥120 and about 270 minutes with only two departures a day, at 14:00 and 15:00, so missing them means waiting until the next day. Qingtian is ¥180 and about 270 minutes with no published timetable, departing according to flight arrivals, so call 0571-86662519 before you count on it.

Bus or metro out of Hangzhou Airport?

Inside Hangzhou, Metro Line 19 wins outright at 22 minutes and ¥7, and the coaches only cover the night gap. Beyond the city, coaches are the only direct option: most of these places have no airport-connected high-speed rail, and one seat to the county town beats changing in the city.

Can I pay for the coach by phone or card?

No official statement was found on QR payment or foreign bank cards. Counter sales with real-name registration are the officially documented process, so carry both cash and your passport.
