In short
Three metro lines leave from level B2 of the ground transport centre, and one of them is the reason this airport works so well for rail travellers: Metro Line 19, the airport express, covers Xiaoshan International Airport to Hangzhou East Railway Station in 22 minutes for ¥7 with no transfer. The first train is at 06:03 and the last at 23:14, running about every 5 minutes at peak and every 7.5 minutes off-peak. Line 19 also continues to Hangzhou West Railway Station for ¥10, so both of the city’s high-speed hubs sit on a single ride. For the older centre, Line 1 runs direct to Wulin Square and to Chengzhan, the city’s older Hangzhou railway station, but it stops far more often and takes roughly twice as long; Line 7 takes you to Wushan Square on the south side of West Lake. After the last train a night coach runs to Wulin Gate for ¥20 and a second one to Hangzhou East for ¥28. Taxis queue outside Gate 14 at T3 and on the T4 link corridor, and charge strictly by the meter.

How to take each option
Metro Line 19, the airport express (recommended)
Time 22 minFare ¥7 (¥10 to Hangzhou West)First 06:03Last 23:14
- After baggage claim follow the rail transit signs into the ground transport centre: about 3 minutes from T4, or 8–10 minutes along the corridor from T3.
- Go down to the B2 metro hall, where the Line 19 platform sits: turn left for T3, about 200 m, or right for T4, about 300 m.
- Buy a single-journey ticket at the machines or the staffed counter, ¥7 to East Railway Station; showing staff your destination station name is the quickest route.
- Clear security and the gates, then board a train towards the West Railway Station; the airport is the terminus, so you always get a seat.
- Ride 22 minutes and get off at East Railway Station: change here to Lines 1 or 4, or follow the signs up to the rail concourse if you are catching a train.
Line 19 has long gaps between stops and is the only one of the three run as an express. Change to Line 1 at West Lake Cultural Square, or to Lines 1 and 4 at East Railway Station. The station opens at 05:50 and closes at 00:27, no entry is allowed within five minutes of the last train, and the metro hotline is 96600.
Metro Line 1 (for the old centre)
First 06:00Last 22:30
- From the same B2 concourse, follow the signs to the Line 1 platform.
- Board a Xianghu-bound train; the airport is the terminus.
- Get off at Wulin Square for the old centre, or stay on to Chengzhan for Hangzhou Railway Station and its conventional trains.
Line 1 stops at every station and threads through the city, so it takes roughly twice as long as Line 19. The payoff is that Wulin Square and Chengzhan need no change at all, which suits anyone staying in the old centre with light bags.
Metro Line 7 (for south West Lake)
First 06:16Last 22:49
- From the B2 concourse, follow the signs to the Line 7 platform.
- Check the destination panel: for the lake you want a Wushan Square train, Jiangdong’er Road is the opposite direction.
- Alight at Wushan Square, which puts you on the south side of West Lake.
The last Wushan Square train is at 22:49, while trains towards Jiangdong’er Road run until 23:14, so always check the direction panel at night.
Taxi
Fare Metered
- Follow the taxi signs: at T3 the rank is outside Gate 14 on the arrivals level, at T4 it is on the corridor between the terminal and level F1 of the transport centre.
- Enter the marked queuing channel and board only at the position staff direct you to; ignore anyone offering a fixed-price ride inside the terminal.
- Show the driver your destination written in Chinese, pay the metered amount, ask for an invoice, and pay road tolls on top.
The meter starts at ¥13 for the first 3 km, then ¥2.50 per km, rising to ¥3.75 per km beyond 10 km, with a 30% uplift on the distance rate between 23:00 and 05:00.
Airport coach (after the last metro)
Fare ¥20–28First 23:30Last 01:50
- Go to the coach station on the north-west side of level 1F of the ground transport centre.
- Buy a ticket at the counter by destination: ¥20 on the Wulin Gate line, ¥28 on the Hangzhou East Railway Station line.
- Come back to the bays at the departure time printed on your ticket and put bags in the luggage hold.
Coach tickets are sold with real-name registration, so keep your passport handy; the coach station hotline is 0571-86662519.
Late-night and early-morning arrivals
The last trains are 23:14 on Line 19, 22:30 on Line 1 and 22:49 on Line 7 towards Wushan Square, with no entry within five minutes of the last departure. After that the Wulin Gate coach runs from 23:30 and follows flight arrivals after 01:30; the Hangzhou East Railway Station coach departs at 23:50, 00:30, 01:10 and 01:50; the Binjiang line at 00:25 and 01:30. Later than that only taxis remain, and their distance rate runs 30% higher between 23:00 and 05:00.
Questions travellers ask
What is the fastest way from Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport to the city centre?
Metro Line 19, the airport express: 22 minutes to East Railway Station for ¥7, then change to Line 1 or Line 4 for the rest of the city. If you are heading to the old centre you can also ride Line 1 direct to Wulin Square, but that takes roughly twice as long.
How much is the metro from Hangzhou Airport to the city?
Line 19 is ¥7 to Hangzhou East and ¥10 to Hangzhou West. Lines 1 and 7 are charged by distance, and no single official fare is published for the airport-to-centre ride on those two lines.
What time are the first and last metro trains from the airport?
On Line 19 towards the West Railway Station the first train is 06:03 and the last 23:14; Line 1 towards Xianghu runs 06:00 to 22:30; Line 7 towards Wushan Square runs 06:16 to 22:49. The station itself is open from 05:50 to 00:27.
Is there a railway station at Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport?
There is no mainline railway station at the airport. For high-speed trains take Line 19 for 22 minutes to Hangzhou East at ¥7, then walk 5–10 minutes up into the concourse; Hangzhou West is on the same line for ¥10.
How much is a taxi from Hangzhou Airport to the city centre?
Only the tariff formula is published, not an airport-to-centre price: ¥13 for the first 3 km, then ¥2.50 per km, rising to ¥3.75 per km beyond 10 km. Third-party travel sites quote a reference range of ¥115–150 and 40–50 minutes, which is not an official figure.
Is there public transport if I land late at night?
Yes. After the last metro, the Wulin Gate coach runs from 23:30 for ¥20, the Hangzhou East Railway Station coach has four departures from 23:50 to 01:50 for ¥28, and the Binjiang line leaves at 00:25 and 01:30 for ¥25. All three board at the coach station on the north-west side of level 1F of the ground transport centre.
Can I reach West Lake by metro?
Yes. Line 7 towards Wushan Square takes you to the south shore of the lake; alternatively ride Line 19 to West Lake Cultural Square and change to Line 1. Both leave you with a walk at the end, and Line 7 is the more direct of the two.
How do I buy and pay for a metro ticket in Hangzhou?
The concourse has ticket machines and a staffed counter for single-journey tickets; having the Chinese name of your destination station on your phone to show staff saves a lot of explaining. No official statement was found on whether foreign bank cards are accepted at the metro or the coach station, so carry some cash.
How long is the airport to Hangzhou East, and is that enough time to catch a train?
Line 19 takes 22 minutes to the station, plus a 5–10 minute walk up to the concourse, for ¥7. International arrivals usually need 45–60 minutes from touchdown to the arrivals hall, so with security and boarding allow yourself at least 1.5 hours.
Can I also get to Hangzhou West railway station by metro?
Yes, on the same Line 19, staying on past East Railway Station towards the West Railway Station for ¥10. Published times disagree: the airport’s own estimate is about 35 minutes, while a Hangzhou government report quotes about 50 minutes.
