Taxis at Chongqing Jiangbei Airport (CKG): fares, pickup points and ride-hailing

Chongqing publishes a tariff formula rather than a fare table: ¥10 for the first 3 km, then ¥2.00 per km, always metered, 24 hours a day.

In short

The one thing to remember about taxis at Chongqing Jiangbei is that the authorities publish a tariff formula and no airport-to-city reference fare, so this page does not print one. The standard tariff for metered taxis in the main urban area, as published by the Chongqing Transport Commission, works like this. By day, 06:00 to 23:00, the flag drop is ¥10 for the first 3 km, then ¥2.00 per km, billed in 500 m steps of ¥1.00. A low-speed charge applies whenever the car is moving at 0–12 km/h: 50% of the kilometre rate is added for the first full five minutes and another 50% for each further 2.5 minutes, with nothing charged for partial periods. Past 25 km the rate rises to ¥3.00 per km, or ¥1.50 per 500 m, and it is not charged on round trips. At night, 23:00 to 06:00, the flag drop is ¥11 for 3 km and the rate is ¥2.30 per km, or ¥1.15 per 500 m; the low-speed charge follows the same rule against the night rate, and beyond 25 km the rate becomes ¥3.45 per km. Every ride is metered, and the airport publishes no airport surcharge or expressway toll for taxis leaving CKG. The rank is on the Level 1 platform between Terminal 3 and the Ground Transport Centre — follow the Taxi signs and queue there — while ride-hailing picks up at the signed ring-road area between the GTC and Terminal 3 on Level 1.

How to take each option

How to get a taxi

Fare Metered
  1. After baggage claim, follow the Taxi signs down to Level 1 of the terminal and ignore anyone who approaches you in the arrivals hall.
  2. Queue at the rank on the Level 1 platform between Terminal 3 and the GTC and board in turn as directed.
  3. Show the driver your destination and address in Chinese and make clear you want the meter used.
  4. Pay the metered fare on arrival and ask for the printed receipt, which shows the car number and the amount.

Board only at the official rank and firmly refuse unlicensed cars and any off-app deal. For ride-hailing, check the plate and driver details in the app before you get in.

Using a ride-hailing app

  1. Confirm the pickup point before ordering: ride-hailing at CKG collects at the signed ring-road area on Level 1 between the GTC and T3.
  2. Walk there from Level 1 of the terminal by following the signs.
  3. Check the plate, car model and driver name in the app before getting in.

The app shows the price up front, which is more predictable than a rank queue late at night or for a long run, and it removes the language problem.

How the fare adds up

  1. Flag drop: ¥10 for 3 km by day, ¥11 for 3 km at night.
  2. Distance: ¥2.00 per km by day and ¥2.30 at night, stepping every 500 m.
  3. In jams the meter also charges time at 0–12 km/h: 50% of the km rate per five minutes, then every 2.5 minutes.
  4. Past 25 km the rate goes up to ¥3.00 per km by day and ¥3.45 per km at night.

As an example: 20 km by day in free-flowing traffic comes to roughly ¥10 plus 17 km at ¥2.00; if you hit a jam on a bridge or in a tunnel, the low-speed charge is added on top. The real total moves with traffic and route, and no official airport-to-city reference fare is published.

Late-night and early-morning arrivals

Taxis run 24 hours, but between 23:00 and 06:00 the night tariff applies: ¥11 for the first 3 km, ¥2.30 per km afterwards and ¥3.45 per km beyond 25 km, roughly 15% above the day rate. Once the metro has stopped (last Line 10 departure from T3 towards the city at 23:23), K01 is the only public transport left, and later than that only taxis and ride-hailing remain.

Questions travellers ask

How much is a taxi from Chongqing Jiangbei Airport to the city centre?

No official reference fare is published for this run, so we print no number. Every ride is metered under the municipal tariff — flag drop, per-km rate, night rate, low-speed charge and long-distance rate are all set out above. Figures circulating online come from second-hand material we cannot verify.

What is the Chongqing taxi flag drop?

¥10 for the first 3 km by day (06:00–23:00) and ¥11 for the first 3 km at night (23:00–06:00).

Is there a night surcharge?

Yes. From 23:00 to 06:00 the night tariff applies: the per-km rate rises from ¥2.00 to ¥2.30, or ¥3.45 beyond 25 km, which works out about 15% dearer than by day.

Do I pay an expressway toll or airport surcharge on top?

No airport surcharge or expressway toll is published for taxis leaving CKG, so the metered amount is what you owe. If a driver asks for anything extra, take the receipt and check it.

Where do I find a taxi at CKG?

At Terminal 3 the rank is on the Level 1 platform between the terminal and the GTC — follow the Taxi signs. Terminal 2 also had stands outside doors 4 and 6 on the arrivals level, but T2 stopped handling flights on 23 December 2025.

Where does ride-hailing pick up?

At Terminal 3 it is the signed ring-road area on Level 1 between the GTC and the terminal; at Terminal 2 it is the designated area on Level 1 opposite the door 3 and 6 passageways. Check the plate and driver details before boarding.

Is there a taxi at 3 a.m.?

Yes — taxis and ride-hailing run 24 hours. By 3 a.m. the metro has finished and K01 has usually stopped too, so a taxi is the only option.

Taxi or metro from CKG?

Line 10 is 21 minutes and ¥4 every few minutes and immune to traffic, so it is the default. A taxi is door to door but metered, and with Chongqing’s tunnels and bridges the metered distance is often much longer than the straight line on your map. Choose a taxi late at night, with heavy bags, or with a group.

Do I need to tip?

No. Just pay the metered amount, and ask for the printed receipt before you get out if you need a record.

How many people fit in one taxi?

A standard metered taxi seats four including the driver, with room for a few suitcases in the boot. For five or more, or with a lot of luggage, order a larger car in the app.
