Airport buses at Sanya Phoenix (SYX): only two lines, both heading for the resort bays

Straight to the point: there are only two official lines, one to Yalong Bay and one to the Haitang Bay duty-free mall, and neither finishes at the railway station or the city centre. Everything else needs a train, a taxi or a ride-hailing car.

In short

Sanya Phoenix International Airport runs exactly two official airport bus lines, a figure confirmed both by the airport’s own coach page and by the Sanya Transport Bureau, which describes the airport bus operation as two routes with 19 vehicles, running from 09:00 to 02:00 with roughly hourly departures. Plenty of travel sites list additional routes or older fares; this page reproduces only the two the airport publishes on sanyaairport.com/jcbs. Line 1 links the airport with Yalong Bay on 18 departures a day between 09:00 and 02:00, closing with the last flight, and works out from the terminal via Haihong Road, Haiyue Square on Sanya Bay Road, Xinfeng Road, the main bus station on Jiefang Road, then Yuya Road for the municipal offices, Dadonghai, Hongsha and Jiyang, before the Yalong Bay turn-off on the Haiyu East Line and the hotels beyond. Line 2 links the airport with the CDF Mall at Haitang Bay on 13 departures a day between 10:00 and 22:00, running via Shuijiao Road to the expressway interchange and along the Hainan Ring Expressway to the Haitang Bay, or Linwang, interchange, calling at Haitang Bay 301 Hospital, the Haitang Bay hotels and the Haitang tourist centre at Haichang Sleepless City before the mall. Both charge by section, capped at ¥25 per adult on the coach and ¥12.5 for a child, with a seven-seat van capped at ¥30 on Line 1 and ¥35 on Line 2. Both board opposite Gate 5 of domestic arrivals on Level 1 of Block C of the transport complex, which the transport bureau describes as Level 1 of the car park opposite Gate 5 of the international arrivals hall, with the service line on 19989002950 and complaints on 0898-66668855, and the airport notes that the stops, departure times and pick-up coverage shown on the Haiqi Travel ticket page take precedence. Three hard limits need stating up front. The airport publishes no total journey time for either line, and while third-party travel sites claim about 60 minutes for Line 1 and 70 for Line 2, nothing official confirms that, so no minutes appear here. The sectional fares are published only as ceilings, with no breakdown by stage. And both lines finish at resort bays, so for Sanya station, for the deeper city, or for anywhere towards Yazhou or Ledong, the buses are useless and you need the train — one stop from Fenghuang Airport station to Sanya station in 8 minutes for ¥8 — or a taxi or a ride-hailing car.

How to take each option

Buying a ticket and boarding, step by step

  1. After baggage claim follow the coach signs to the boarding point opposite Gate 5 of domestic arrivals on Level 1 of Block C, described by the transport bureau as Level 1 of the car park opposite Gate 5 of the international arrivals hall. Both lines leave from here.
  2. Check the destination board on the coach or at the counter: Line 1 to Yalong Bay, Line 2 to the Haitang Bay mall. They share one boarding point, so picking the wrong one costs you an hour.
  3. Tell the conductor which hotel or district you want and pay the sectional fare, capped at ¥25 per adult and ¥12.5 for a child on the coach, or ¥30 on Line 1 and ¥35 on Line 2 in a seven-seat van.
  4. Stow big bags in the hold and keep valuables with you. Line 1 makes many intermediate stops, so listen for announcements or follow your own map.
  5. If you need to check that day’s service call 19989002950, or 0898-66668855 to complain. The airport notes that stops, times and pick-up coverage are whatever the Haiqi Travel ticket page shows.

The airport publishes only the ceiling, that fares are sectional and capped at ¥25, without a breakdown by stage, so simply ask the conductor what your section costs before you board.

Choosing by bay: which line suits your hotel

  1. Staying in Yalong Bay: take Line 1 to the Yalong Bay turn-off and the hotels beyond; with the last departure at 02:00 even late arrivals are usually covered.
  2. Staying in Haitang Bay or heading for the duty-free mall: take Line 2, 13 departures a day between 10:00 and 22:00, noting that it finishes at 22:00.
  3. Staying in Sanya Bay, Dadonghai or the city: Line 1 passes Haiyue Square, the main bus station and Dadonghai, so get off part way rather than riding through to Yalong Bay.
  4. Staying towards Yazhou or Ledong, or anywhere off both routes: the buses are no use, so take the train or a cab.

In one line: these two routes were built for the resort bays, not for city trips. For anywhere in town, think train first — Fenghuang Airport station to Sanya station in 8 minutes for ¥8 — and taxi second.

Where the buses do not go, and what to do

  1. For Sanya station or any onward train, follow the railway signs to Fenghuang Airport station on the west side of Terminal 1 and ride one stop in as little as 8 minutes for ¥8, the cheapest and most predictable ride here.
  2. For the deeper city or any address off the routes, take a taxi from the official queue opposite Gates 4 to 5 of the Level 1 arrivals hall at T1 and T2, or outside Gate 01 at T3, and pay the meter.
  3. For ride-hailing, use its own area opposite Gates 2 to 3 of the Level 1 arrivals hall at T1 and T2, entering through the east or west entrance and following the zebra crossing, or at T3 take the shuttle from outside Gate 2 on the east side of Level 1 to the temporary car park.
  4. Heading to Yalong Bay but missing Line 1? You can also take the train to Yalong Bay station in 19 to 23 minutes, though the published fare table lists no direct price, so rely on what 12306 shows.

The tram is no help either: Sanya has just one line, Sanya Railway Station to Jiangang Road, ¥3 and 06:30 to 22:31, and you must reach Sanya station by train before you can ride it.

Late-night and early-morning arrivals

Only Line 1 is still running late: it operates until 02:00 with the last flight and is the sole public transport with any hope for anyone landing after 22:00. Line 2 closes at 22:00 and the last train towards Sanya leaves Fenghuang Airport station at 22:29, arriving 22:40. Short taxi shortages have been recorded in windows like 01:30 to 02:56, and the Sanya Transport Bureau responds by stationing staff at the airport and organising metered taxis and ride-hailing cars in shifts until the last arriving flight of the day is cleared, having in past peaks extended 43 buses on routes 108 and 136 and put 50 ride-hailing cars into a dedicated loop. Enquiries on 0898-88217397 from 08:00 to 18:00 and 0898-88595928 from 18:00 to 08:00. Taxis add 20% to the whole fare between 23:00 and 06:00.

Questions travellers ask

How many airport bus lines does Sanya have?

Officially just two: Line 1 to Yalong Bay, 18 departures a day from 09:00 to 02:00, and Line 2 to the Haitang Bay duty-free mall, 13 a day from 10:00 to 22:00. The transport bureau likewise describes two routes with 19 vehicles.

How much do the Sanya airport buses cost?

Both charge by section, capped at ¥25 per adult and ¥12.5 per child on the coach, with seven-seat vans capped at ¥30 on Line 1 and ¥35 on Line 2. The airport gives only the ceiling, not a breakdown by stage.

How long does the airport bus take?

The airport does not publish it. Third-party travel sites claim about 60 minutes for Line 1 and 70 for Line 2, which is unconfirmed and not repeated here, so simply plan on more than an hour.

Where do the airport buses leave from?

Opposite Gate 5 of domestic arrivals on Level 1 of Block C of the transport complex, described by the transport bureau as Level 1 of the car park opposite Gate 5 of the international arrivals hall, and both lines use the same point. Service line 19989002950, complaints 0898-66668855.

Is there an airport bus to Sanya railway station?

No. The two lines finish at Yalong Bay and the Haitang Bay mall, neither at Sanya station. Go by train from Fenghuang Airport station, 8 minutes and ¥8, or take a cab, which third-party sites put at 20 to 30 minutes and ¥25–50.

What time is the last airport bus?

Line 1 runs until 02:00 with the last flight on 18 departures a day; Line 2 closes at 22:00 with 13. Headways are roughly hourly and the Haiqi Travel ticket page has the final word.

Why do travel sites list more bus lines?

This page reproduces only what the airport publishes at sanyaairport.com/jcbs and what the Sanya Transport Bureau currently states. Third-party pages routinely keep routes and fares that have since changed or been withdrawn, and those are not carried here.

Do children need a ticket on the bus?

A child ticket is capped at ¥12.5, about half the adult ceiling. The airport publishes no height or age rules beyond the ceiling, so the conductor’s decision on the day is what counts.

Bus, train or taxi?

With light bags, a hotel in Yalong Bay or Haitang Bay and an arrival inside operating hours, the bus is best value at up to ¥25. For Sanya station or the deeper city use the train at 8 minutes and ¥8. With heavy bags, three or four people, or a late landing, take a cab.

Can I pay for the bus with my phone or a foreign card?

The airport publishes no dedicated payment page, so have cash or a QR wallet ready. No official statement covers foreign cards on the coaches: the official foreign-card evidence concerns around 12,700 marked merchant terminals in Sanya and the Hainan Fangxin Fu pilot in taxi fleets, so carry some cash.
