In and out of the East Gate: up by the Bailong lift, down by cable car, no backtracking
A 10.5-hour walk through the park: up by the Bailong lift, across Yuanjiajie, over Tianzi Mountain and down by cable car. The sandstone pillars are real; so are the queues for the lifts.
Knees and strollers: this is 8–10 km of steps with two cable cars in the middle.
The park ticket is valid four days. Most people buy it for one and only find out at the gate that they could have spread the visit out.

The lift and cable car remove most of the climbing, so school-age children cope. Strollers are impractical up top — a carrier is better.

A small-group day in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park that ran like clockwork: hotel pick-up in the city, a sensible route, and the highlights covered in a single day — Yuanjiajie, Tianzi Mountain and the Ten-Mile Gallery. Our guide knew every corner of the park, kept the pace comfortable and reminded us about safety on the trails. Ideal if you have one day and would rather someone else handled the logistics.
We hit rain and fog, so the long views were gone — a small pity. The guide made up for it: professional, knew every trail in the park, explained things vividly, warned us about the wet steps and took the time to find good spots for photos. The pace was relaxed, and the day still felt well organised.
Our guide Liu was careful, thorough and genuinely responsible — and particularly good with the older travellers in the group. Worth a mention.
