坐高铁前来

提醒
- Photography and filming are forbidden inside every hall at Kumbum, as are phone calls. Turn prayer wheels and circle stupas clockwise, and never step on a threshold.
- The dress code is enforced: no bare shoulders, no shorts or skirts above the knee, or you will be turned away. Wear long trousers and sleeves, and carry a jacket.
- Ignore the “free khata scarf” and “blessed dzi bead” approaches at the gate — the scarf is free until you take it, and then it costs money.
- The route runs between 2,260 m and 3,300 m. Take the first day easy, skip alcohol, and check with a doctor first if you have heart or blood-pressure conditions.
- July and August bring fierce UV and strong wind at the lake — sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat are not optional. After October the pass can carry snow and ice.
For travellers who want a monastery and a high-altitude lake in the same day. With children or elderly parents, note that the Laji Pass sits close to 3,800 m and the stop is deliberately short.
