Laoshan is a range with several gates. This route uses the Dahedong entrance; turning up at a different one adds an hour of driving.

The prettiest of the Laoshan routes is the Yangkou scenic area, and the landmark is Taiqing Palace — after comparing several options, this one did not disappoint. Well organised and tightly scheduled: a long day with an early start and a late return, but thoroughly enjoyable.
The guide was friendly and good company. The pace was easy and there was enough time at each stop.
